01 — Opening the evening

أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

Amsayna wa amsal-mulku lillah, walhamdu lillah, la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah…

"We have entered the evening and the entire dominion belongs to Allah. Praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah alone with no partner…"

02 — Ayat al-Kursi

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ…

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum…

Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255) — whoever recites it in the evening is protected from jinn until morning.

Narrated in al-Hakim, graded Sahih 1×

03 — Evening contentment

رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَبِيًّا

Raditu billahi Rabban wa bil-Islami dinan wa bi-Muhammadin ﷺ nabiyyan

"I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion, and Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet."

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَمْسَيْتُ أُشْهِدُكَ وَأُشْهِدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ، وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ، وَجَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ، أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ

Allahumma inni amsaytu ush-hiduka wa ush-hidu hamalata 'arshika…

"O Allah, I have entered the evening calling You to witness, and calling the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all creation to witness, that You are Allah — none has the right to be worshipped except You alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is Your slave and messenger." — Whoever says this 4× is freed from the Fire.

04 · Contentment with Allah

Raditu billahi Rabban wa bil-Islami dinan wa bi-Muhammadin (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) nabiyyan
