Evening adhkar (Adhkar al-Masa): the full list with Arabic & English.

The evening adhkar (أَذْكَارُ الْمَسَاءِ) are a set of authentic supplications recited after Asr until Maghrib. They seal the day in remembrance and place the coming night under Allah's protection. When to recite the evening adhkar

The evening adhkar are recited after the Asr prayer until Maghrib (sunset). In the Islamic day, Maghrib marks the start of the night — so these adhkar are the doorway into the evening. Some scholars allow extending them into the early part of the night if you miss the window, but the best time is between Asr and Maghrib.

The evening adhkar — key phrases

1. Ayatul Kursi (×1)

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ… Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum, la ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm… — Quran 2:255 · whoever recites it in the evening is protected until morning

2. The three Quls (×3 each)

Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas — three times each. Al-Falaq is especially fitting in the evening, as it seeks refuge from "the evil of darkness when it settles." (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

3. We have entered the evening (×1)

أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ Amsayna wa amsal-mulku lillah, walhamdu lillah, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah… — Sahih Muslim

5. SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi (×100)

6. Refuge in Allah's perfect words (×3)

7. Hasbiyallah (×7)

Evening vs morning adhkar

The evening and morning adhkar are close counterparts. The evening set is recited after Asr; the morning adhkar after Fajr, with small wording changes — for example Asbahna ("we have entered the morning") in place of Amsayna. Keeping both, morning and evening, is one of the most beloved daily routines in the Sunnah.

Frequently asked questions

How long do the evening adhkar take?

The full set takes about five to ten minutes. The core — Ayatul Kursi, the three Quls and SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi ×100 — takes just two to three minutes if you're short on time.

What if I miss the time between Asr and Maghrib?

Recite them as soon as you remember. The reward of the appointed time may be reduced, but the protection and benefit of the adhkar remain — it is always better to read them late than not at all.
