Friday dhikr: the sunnah adhkar of Jumu'ah.

Friday is the best of days. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best day on which the sun rises is Friday" (Sahih Muslim). It carries its own emphasised acts of remembrance — not a long new list, but three things done well: increasing salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, reciting Surah al-Kahf, and chasing the hour in which dua is never refused. Here is each, with the authentic source.

1. Increase salawat on the Prophet ﷺ

This is the dhikr of Friday. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Increase your salawat upon me on the day of Jumu'ah, for it is a witnessed day, attended by the angels." — Sunan Abi Dawud 1047 · graded sahih by al-Albani

And he ﷺ promised the return on it:

"Whoever sends one salah upon me, Allah sends ten upon him." — Sahih Muslim 408

The simplest form you can repeat through the day:

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ Allahumma salli wa sallim 'ala Nabiyyina Muhammad — "O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad."

And the most complete, the Salawat Ibrahimiyyah you say in your prayer:

— Sahih al-Bukhari 3370

2. Recite Surah al-Kahf

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu'ah, a light will shine for him between the two Fridays." — Al-Hakim & al-Bayhaqi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA) · graded sahih/hasan by al-Albani

You can read it any time within the Friday window — from Maghrib on Thursday night until Maghrib on Friday — so even a busy person can find a slot. Surah al-Kahf (the 18th chapter) is also the protection against the trial of the Dajjal: the Prophet ﷺ said whoever memorises its first ten verses is protected from him (Sahih Muslim 809).

3. Seek the hour of acceptance

Friday hides a treasure — a single hour in which dua is answered:

"On Friday there is an hour in which no Muslim servant stands, praying, asking Allah for something, except that He gives it to him." — Sahih al-Bukhari 935, Sahih Muslim 852, from Abu Hurairah (RA)

When is it? The strongest opinion — held by Ibn al-Qayyim and Imam Ahmad — is the last hour of the day, after Asr until Maghrib:

"Seek it in the last hour after the Asr prayer." — Sunan Abi Dawud 1048, from Jabir (RA) · graded sahih by al-Albani

So spend the final stretch of Friday in dua — for yourself, your parents, your family, and the ummah. Fill it with the names of Allah and salawat (which is itself never rejected), and ask.

Don't forget the daily adhkar

Friday's special acts sit on top of your daily remembrance, not instead of it. Keep the morning and evening adhkar and the after-salah dhikr as normal — Friday simply adds more salawat, al-Kahf, and that final hour of dua.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best dua to make on Friday?

There is no single fixed wording — make the duas most beloved to you, prefaced and sealed with salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ (which guarantees the dua is raised). The comprehensive Quranic dua Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah… (2:201) is a beautiful one for the hour of acceptance.

Can women read Surah al-Kahf and get the same reward?

Yes — all these acts apply equally to men and women. The reward of al-Kahf, salawat and dua in the hour of acceptance is for every believer.
